Senior Minister D.E.W. Gunasekara has said the government’s intervention in the market has helped steady the prices of vegetables and consumer goods.
He has said the Sri Lankan economy would have been devastated if the government continued with the main opposition UNP’s stance of a non-intervention market policy.
The Minister has said that the high prices of vegetables and consumer goods was not exclusive to Sri Lanka.
Gunasekara has added that had the UNP been in power, its policy of importing consumer goods would have been disastrous since other countries are also facing a short supply of food products resulting in sky rocketing prices.
