Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Rajitha Senarathne has said that 94 Sri Lankan fishermen and 20 vessels taken into custody by the Indian Coast Guard have been released.
Out of the fishermen who have been released, 81 of them and 15 boats have already arrived in the country and the rest are to arrive next week.
He has told the media that that the Indian Coast Guard had arrested 100 Sri Lankan fishermen and 21 vessels.
Senarathne has said that steps have been taken to prevent Sri Lankan fishermen from being arrested by Indian authorities in future.
The Sri Lankan fishermen are to be informed of the decisions arrived at between the two governments in order to prevent them from being arrested.
