This Is An Opportunity To Say “Enough” To Government – UNP Candidate

Mar 5, 2011 2:03:00 PM - thesundayleader.lk

Lokuge Wijewardena

Lokuge Wijewardena is a UNP candidate for Boralesgamuwa Municipal Council at the forthcoming local government poll. He has been an ardent supporter of the UNP for many years and has been of service to the party.
He said that he is contesting under the UNP because it is the party that obtained freedom for the country. ‘Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake initiated massive schemes to develop the agriculture in the country. The party also finished the Mahaweli project in six years, which otherwise would have been finished in 30 years. Besides these invaluable services, UNP was instrumental in introducing massive development projects, open economy and services to the poor people which have never been done by any other party.’
Expressing his views further Lokuge said, “People requested me to contest the election because I have done much social service for this area. They asked me to contest this time and expand my services to the people. I am the secretary of the Werahera Butterfly Sports Club and the Chairman of the Funeral Society for the period 1988-1998. I was also Secretary of the Lion’s Club as well. I was able to obtain a 25 perch land and build a permanent place for the Funeral Society. In addition, I was able to convert Werahera Welfare Society to the present Welfare and Funeral Society. I also served as the Treasurer of Werahera Gangarama Seela Samadi Society. I never gave falls promises, promise only the work that I can fulfill and always represent honest politics.”
Emphasizing on why people should vote for the UNP in this election, he said that the cost of living is so high no one can afford basic needs today. Mismanagement of the economy is everywhere in the country. Youth are jobless. The government is heading in the wrong direction. “People have to give a signal that they do not approve the activities of the government. Soon there will be mayhem.” Lokuge Wijewardene’s preferential no. is 10.
