The Central Bank has said that Sri Lanka’s cumulative earnings from exports recorded the highest in the history in 2010.
Releasing the figures for the external sector performance, the Economic Research Department of the Bank said both, exports and imports recorded the highest ever monthly values in December last year. For the month of December, earnings from exports increased by 34%, year-on-year, to 968 Million US Dollars and expenditure on imports rose by 30.8% to 1.429 Billion US Dollars. Industrial sector, led by significant increases in exports of textiles and garments, food and beverages and rubber products contributed largely to the growth in exports in December. The cumulative earnings from exports recorded the highest so far in the history in 2010, increasing by 17.3% to 8.307 Billion US Dollars.
