The farmers in Polonnaruwa are receiving a good income for their harvest in the Maha season.
Harvesting is now taking place in the Polonnaruwa District. A large number of private traders have offered to purchase the paddy at a rate above the certified price of the government. This would provide the opportunity for the Polonnaruwa farmers to obtain a higher income. The certified price of a kilo of Nadu paddy is 28 rupees while it is currently being purchased at 30 rupees. A kilo of Samba paddy is being purchased at 32 rupees. The Polonnaruwa farmers expressed appreciation for being able to sell the remainder of the harvest that was destroyed due to floods, at a higher price.
