‘I will not be deterred by false allegations and insults’ says President

The President has said that he will not be deterred by false allegations and insults.

He stressed that no power will be able to undermine the programme launched to build the motherland. The President said that attempts are being made to take him to the international war tribunal and impose death penalty on him. He said that executing him in the electric chair will not destroy his feelings for the country. He said that the aim of the Opposition is to topple the government. But it will take sometime. The President stressed that they can carry out their work inside the country without betraying it. He asked as to who will suffer if aid would be stopped. He stressed that GSP was stopped but it did not have an effect on the garment industry. New garment factories are being opened. He said that consideration should be given to these situations.

The UPFA local government election seminar themed ‘Sapiri Gamak-Supiri Ratak’ was held under the patronage of President Rajapaksa at the auditorium of the Ratnapura Provincial Council. The President said that any person has the right to engage in politics and support a political campaign of his choice. The President is obliged to protect this right. Addressing the UPFA activists, the President said that all political representatives have a responsibility to recognize their duties. Senior Minister Prof. Tissa Witharana, Ministers Susil Premajayantha, W.D.J. Seneviratne, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Wasudeva Nanayakkara, Deputy Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena and Parliamentarian J.R.P. Sooriyapperuma also addressed the gathering. The local political leaders were among those who participated in the occasion.
