Minister Basil Rajapaksa has made a call to increase nutrition level of families through the housewives.
The Minister said that the “Divi-neguma” programme was launched to create self sufficiency not only in the country but in villages and families as well. He said that awareness should be raised in people about this programme. He noted that the issues pertaining to training, marketing and raw materials have been solved before linking with the economic units.
He stated this at a media briefing held in connection with the programme pertaining to Saturday’s launch of the national programe of one million home economies. The programme will be launched as a massive project for uplifting the country amidst the world crises. Under the programme housewives will be encouraged to cultivate several crops required for family nutrition. The Government is expecting to provide a strong foundation for the future generation through this programme which will be launched in several phases. The Minister said that this requires the dedication of all citizens. Ministers Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Reginald Cooray also participated in the occasion.
