President has the blessings of the “Daughters of Wonder”

The President has said that the blessings of the mothers have strengthened the political path.


He said that it was women who were mostly battered due to terrorism. The President said that he has to fulfill his responsibility and duty towards the mothers, sisters and daughters who have suffered in the North and East as well as the South. He said that “Mathata Thita” programme was launched and smoking was banned in public places to strengthen women. The President stated that the women were given the power to setup the Government and the same responsibility is now being bestowed on them to build the country. He said that the women waited near the school gates to protect their children and sacrificed their children to the security forces. Its his belief that women should be given leadership in building the country. That is why the women have been given the responsibility to effectively carryout the programme of one million economic units. He noted that he is aware of the strength, courage and determination of women.

The President expressed these views while addressing the gathering at the function organized by the SLFP to mark the International women’s Day which falls tomorrow. The function was held this morning at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. The theme of this year’s Women’s Day is “Daughters of Wonder”. Further expressing his views the President said the SLFP offers the highest position for women and the party was built with the strength of Sirimavo Bandaranike who was an important female leader of the world.

A former Minister and Governor in India Mrs. Margaret Alwa participated in the occasion as an invited guest. Ministers, Parliamentarians, Foreign Diplomats, and representatives of SLFP women’s organization were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
