A tense situation was reported from the Puttalam town last night when a group of supporters of a former UPFA deputy minister staged a protest.
Supporters of former deputy minister K.A. Baiz have reportedly staged the protest against the police for removing a cutout of a candidate for the Puttalam Urban Council.
The protest was held in the Puttalam town.
The cutout had been removed, as it was in violation of election laws. The Elections Commissioner announced that all banners, posters and cutouts related to the local government election be removed on March 1.
Soon after the cutout was removed, the deputy minister’s supports had held a protest chanting slogans against the police.
