Two teens jailed after Five Points robbery

Mar 7, 2011 5:24:00 PM - thestate.com
Two Columbia teens are in jail after allegedly using a wooden chair leg Friday night to rob someone.

Jason Spann, 17, has been charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery, and third-degree assault and battery, according to a Columbia Police Department report. A 16-year-old juvenile has been charged with armed robbery and first-degree assault and battery in the incident.

Police said the two teens allegedly approached two people around 9:15 p.m. in the 2200 block of College Street and demanded money. The teens were armed with a wooden chair leg, and Spann allegedly hit one victim in the head with his closed fist. The two fled after taking a small amount of money, police said.

Police apprehended the two and the juvenile still had the chair leg in his possession, police said. Both are being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
