President Rajapaksa has commended the services discharged by women within family and community as well as within the country’s economy.
The President mentioned this in a message to marke International Women’s Day today. He said Sri Lanka has launched a giant program to ensure the country’s development through which it hopes to make the living of women and all others easy. President Rajapaksa said that the provision of equal opportunities to women to be shareholders of the country’s development process is important since through this women could be further strengthened. The President said that it is the duty of all to enable women to render their services at maximum to make the country a Wonder of Asia.
Prime Minister D M Jayaratne, in his message said it is the duty of all to think about impediments, obstacles and harassments suffered by women who dedicate their entire life for the welfare of others. The Prime Minister said if not for President Rajapaksa the women in this country will certainly continue to suffer various difficulties in the Sri Lankan society. He emphasised that women account for a high percentage in the country’s literacy rate. Women have already proved that they can compete successfully with men as they have entered various professions and fields.
