A suspect arrested in relation to an incident attempting to assassinate Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in a suicide attack at the Pittala Junction in Colombo has been remanded.
The suspect was arrested by the CID at the Katunayake International Airport when he arrived from abroad. The Police intimated to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that they conducted further inquiries based on a national identity card recovered from the scene where the attack on the Defence Secretary was targeted on 01st December 2006. The authorities of the Airport and the Department of Immigration and Emigration were apprised of the suspect.
Accordingly he was apprehended and produced in Courts. Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli remanded the suspect until the 22nd of this month.
