The “Ran Avuda Mandapaya” of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy has been entrusted to the Maligawa after reconstruction.
The historic Sri Dalada Maligawa came under a ruthless terrorist attack on the 25th of January 1998. Also 12 devotees who had been at the Maligawa to offer alms died in this incident while 13 others suffered injuries. The present Government took the initiatives of totally eliminating tiger terrorism from the country amidst the blessings of the Buddhists world wide. It is the “Ran Avuda Mandapaya” of the historic Dalada Maligawa which was destroyed in the terrorist attack that was being entrusted to the Maligawa after reconstruction. The reconstruction was carried out under the supervision of Department Archeology and with grants from the Construction Ministry, at the behest of the President.
It was entrusted to the Maligawa under the patronage of Minister Wimal Weerawansa. Mementos were offered to all parties contributed in every form for the reconstruction. Members of the Maha Sangha, Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and the Diyawadana Pradeep Nilame Nilanaga Dela were present on this occasion.
