Charleston business leaders are getting an update on the impact of the cruise business in the city.
The Charleston Metro Chamber's Charleston Community Connect hears Wednesday from the State Ports Authority's director of business development, Peter Lehman.
Lehman is releasing the projected economic impact a new cruise terminal on the Charleston waterfront will have on the region.
He's also updating leaders on progress on the new terminal scheduled to open next year just up the river from the existing aging terminal. The authority later this month selects a design team for the new terminal.
Tourism is an $18 billion industry in South Carolina. A study conducted last year for the authority found the cruise industry means $37 million to the economy.
