A Cayce man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after his conviction of criminal sexual assault on a child.
Michael Ray Elders was convicted of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and committing a lewd act on a child for assaults on a 9-year-old girl multiple times in 2008 and 2009. The contact ocurred at Elders Congaree Drive home approximately every other weekend, Solicitor Donnie Myers said.
On June 28, 2009, the girl disclosed injuries to her mother and was examined at a hospital. Doctors determined she had been sexually assaulted, which led to Elders' arrest.
The child testified in Elders' trial, explaining that she kept quiet because Elders had warned her that "something bad would happen" if she told.
"Now this young girl can sleep at night knowing that he can never harm her again," Assistant Solicitor Debra Barry Moore said. "This is a brave little girl with enormous courage to stand up for herself."
