A gas line break Wednesday morning caused one northeastern Richland County high school to be locked down and the entrances to two large subdivisions blocked, authorities said.
A construction crew broke the line along Hardscrabble Road about 10:30, according to the Richland County Sheriffs Department and the Columbia Fire Department.
Students and staff at Ridgeview High School were ordered to stay inside, and some were moved to other sections of the campus, fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said. Nearby Rice Creek Elementary is not on lockdown, authorities said.
It was unclear how many people were affected.
An SCE&G repair crew was on the scene to fix the leak, Jenkins said.
