A recipe developed by a South Carolina team including Burke High School students is a semifinalist in a competition sponsored by first lady Michelle Obama's campaign to end childhood obesity.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports confetti soup is one of 15 semifinalists in a contest to develop a healthy school lunch sponsored by Let's Move!
Confetti soup is made with ham and black-eyed peas, carrots, onions, celery and seasonings.
It was developed by a team including Craig Deihl, the executive chef at Cypress Restaurant, Burke students, a local nonprofit group and nutritionists from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Confetti soup is one of five semifinalists in the soup category selected from 350 entries nationwide. Three finalists participate in a national cook off this summer
