For the first time in Sri Lanka’s history all vegetable cultivators are being given the fertilizer subsidy. The Government’s aim is to build an agri-economy strengthening the local farmer. President Rajapaksa said so in Nuwara Eliya.
The President said the fertilizer subsidy was given to paddy cultivator and then to the rubber cultivator. It was also extended for tea cultivation. But he said relief was not granted to the vegetable cultivator. He said the Government was ready to grant this relief to the vegetable cultivator.
The meeting of the United Peoples’ Alliance Nuwara Eliya District activists was held at the Nuwara Eliya Town Hall presided by the President. It was organized in parallel to the programme of appraising the Freedom Alliance activists of all districts under the theme “An abundant village – a self-sufficient nation.” The President handed over awards to school children of the Nuwara Eliya district who secured the first place in arts, literature and sports. ‘further expressing his views, the President underlined that his sole intention was to build a country conducive to the children. Ministers C.B. Ratnayake and Navin Dissanayake, Deputy Minister Lalith Dissanayake and former Deputy Minister V. Puthrasigamani also expressed their views.
