A national development programme has been launched in 14,000 Grama Niladhari Divisions to stabilize household economies and create a wondrous motherland.
The Divi Neguma National Programme was inaugurated under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the historic Matara. The national programme was launched under the patronage of President at the auspicious time of 11.21 a.m today. The President planted a mango plant at the Matara fort to mark the inauguration. Measures are being taken to provide seeds, fertilizer and other requirements worth 10 thousand rupees to every family taking part in the programme. Ministers Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Dallas Alahapperuma participated in the function.
A cultivation programme was organized in parallel to the Divi Neguma programme under the patronage of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna at the National Heritage Centre in Gampola. The Prime Minister said that anyone can obtain facilities from the Government to cultivate food crops in uncultivated land. The function in the Gampaha District was held at Akarawita in Gampaha under the patronage of Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The Economic Development Ministry is playing an important role in the National Progaramme of cultivating one million home gardens. Senior Ministers are coordinating the cultivation programme launched jointly by several ministries. Deputy Minsiter Pandu Bandaranayake and the Chief Minister of the Western Province Prasanna Ranatunga were amongst those who participated in the Gampaha District Divi Neguma programme .
