The special information unit of the Ministry has been continuously collecting details of the areas that were affected. The Sri Lankan embassy in Japan has been collecting information with assistance from organizations of Sri Lankans. Sendai in Japan has been the worst affected area. Sarath Dissanayake, Director General-Public Communications in the External Affairs Ministry said that this area has the lowest number of Sri Lankans. He said that information on the disaster is continuously being monitored and they are on alert about the fate of Sri Lankans.
