President says opposition is engaged in politics from abroad

The President has said that the ruling party is engaged in local politics while the opposition is engaged in politics abroad.

The President said that the programme of the government is aimed at rescuing the country from economic slavery. He said that a programme has been launched to strengthen the people and to overcome the economic problems. The Government has launched a programme to free the country from economic slavery. He said that is why the UNP politicians have gone abroad to be engaged in politics. The JVP has also joined them. He said that roads and five harbours are being constructed to provide employment opportunities to people. He said that on the 17th March the representatives would be elected to develop the villages.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated this at a meeting held in Matara. It was held under the theme, “Sapiri-Gamak Supiri Ratak” in order to ensure the victory of UPFA. The meeting was held at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara with the participation of a large number of people. Addressing the Matara District activists, the President said that a country needs a strong Opposition to speak on behalf of the people and not to betray the motherland. Ministers, Parliamentarians and Politicians were amongst a large number of people who participated in the meeting. Meanwhile the President also participated in a meeting held at the Kalutara Urban Council grounds for the activists in the Kalutara District.

He said that the people’s economy is improving and it is clear that they have been strengthened. He said that water and electricity have been supplied and massive water supply schemes have been launched. However he said that development is meaningless if the children are not religious and respect their elders. He said that the parents also have to set an example for their children in order to create a moral society. Ministers and Parliamentarians were amongst a large number of people who participated in the meeting which was organized by Deputy Minsiter Rohitha Abeygunawardena.
