A number of opposition candidates in the local government election have joined the UPFA.
They also pledged assistance for the President’s people friendly programme. The President of the Matara lawyers Association and Municipal Council Member Kapila Manamperi joined the UPFA at a rally held in Matara yesterday and extended support for the President. The UNP is weakening gradually due to internal clashes. He and the other stalwarts of the UNP said that they decided to join the President to serve the country. Meanwhile two candidates representing Independent Groups in the Gampaha District Lal Withana and Namal Thushara also joined the UPFA at the meeting held in Meerigama yesterday. Ranil Sanjaya de Silva who is contesting for the Minuwangoda Urban Council from the UNP and the JVP candidate Tharanga Sampath also met with the President and joined the UPFA.
