The President participated in a meeting organized in Gampaha District last evening, to ensure the victory of the UPFA.
The president said that in the past the villages had a charm of their own with mud houses and a gardens where useful trees such as Papaya, curry leaf, Mango and Katurumurunga were grown. A vegetable plot was also there. Today the houses are well built with tiled roofs, electricity supply and conveniences such as electric fans. But the gardens are empty with few flower plants. People have got used to visit the Super Markets to buy all their needs including curry leaves. He said that the government has launched a programme to strengthen the economy of one million families . He said that the economy of the housewives will be strengthened by cultivating their home gardens. He noted that before asking the others he has cultivated his own garden.
He pointed out that the Divi Neguma National Programme has strengthened the battle launched to uplift the families to build the country. The meeting held under the theme of ‘Sapiri Gamak-Supiri Ratak’, was held in the Meerigama public grounds. The President said that he is always committed towards steering the country towards progress for the people and not for political gain. Ministers and Parliamentarians in the Gampaha District including Minister Basil Rajapaksa participated in the meeting.
