University lecturers have decided to hold a token strike this week demanding a salary hike.
The Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) has said that the strike would be based on three demands.
According to the FUTA, the government has failed to honor its pledge of granting a salary hike to the university lecturers.
The Association has decided to hold a token strike on Tuesday (15).
Head of FUTA, Nimal Ranjith Dewasiri has told the media that the lecturers would launch a continuous strike if the government fails to adhere to its demands.
The university lecturers last year demanded a salary hike and launched a token strike and called off another strike after negotiations with the government. The FUTA said the government had agreed to grant a salary hike.
However, the Association claims the government after promising to introduce a salary hike in a three months has failed to do so.
