Schools to be closed where elections are held

A number of Schools will be closed due to the Local Government Election.


The schools will be closed in areas where the Local Government election will be held on the 16th and 17th excluding Jaffna and Kilinochchi. The Education Ministry said that the schools and teachers colleges that will be used as counting centres are being closed until the 19th. National Schools such as Isipathana College, Colombo, Christ Church College in Matale, Gamini Vidyalaya in Nuwara Eliya, The Suchi school in Siribopura, Hambantota, Maliyadeva Girls and Boys colleges in Kurunegala, St. Andrews College in Puttalam, Mahanama Vidyalaya in Monaragala and Vishaka Vidyalaya in Badulla are amongst the schools that will be closed. Meanwhile the Siyane’ Teachers College in Gampaha, the Pasdunrata College in Kalutara and Pulasthipua Teachers College in Polonnaruwa will also be closed. Vidyaloka Vidyalaya in Pattalagedera, Museus College in Kaluratra, St. Sylvesters College in Kandy, Allosious College in Galle, Rohana Vidyalaya in Matara, Sr. John Kotalawala Vidyalaya in Kurunegala, Fathima Girls School and Sheinab Girls Primary School in Puttalama, Vishaka Primary School in Badulla, Sumana Balika Vidyalaya in Ratnapura, Swarna Jayanthi Vidyalaya and Kegalle Girls school will be closed due to being used as counting centres.
