S.C. House lawmakers went against the suggestion of Gov. Nikki Haley again today, refusing to require state employees to pay for increases in their health insurance costs.
State Rep. Eric Bedingfield, R-Greenville, introduced an amendment to require state workers to pay 30 percent of the insurance increase and the state to pay 70 percent, roughly the same ratio that state workers and the state now pay for a workers health insurance. The measure was defeated 97 to 21.
Haley sent a list of budget recommendations to lawmakers Tuesday, including a request that state workers pay for next years increase in their health insurance costs in an effort to cut state spending.
