Residents of Elmwood Park live downtown and, in some cases, pay downtown prices for their homes.
But with three four-lane highways separating them from the city center Elmwood Avenue, Assembly Street and Huger Street they might as well live in the Northeast.
We have to drive to CanalSide; we have to drive to the Vista, said Peter Korper, president of the Elmwood Park Neighborhood Association. You do feel a bit cut off.
But a group of downtown neighborhood associations are hoping to change that by transforming an old railroad bed and two train tunnels into a one-mile walking trail that would connect Elmwood Avenue to Lady Street.
