Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dishanayake has pointed out that they were able to conduct the Local Government polls in a peaceful environment when taking into consideration the past mini-polls.
The Elections Chief has made this reference making a special announcement following the end of the local government polls. Mr. Dishanayake said there were clashes between candidates of the same party for preferences. He expressed his gratitude to all District Returning officers and District Deputy, Senior Assistant and Assistant Election Commissioners and all Public Officials who discharged their duties during the short period in the face of various difficulties. He also thanked the staff officers who contributed for the successful conduct of the polls. He made special mention of the Sri Lanka Police, Civil Defence Officers and the Armed Forces which provided special security. Mr. Dishanayake extended his gratitude to all political parties and their candidates as well as the voters in addition to all others of different sectors who made a vital contribution for the election.
