SLED director Reggie Lloyd told The State newspaper today that he will leave the post before his term ends in January.
Lloyd, the states top law enforcement officer, would not say precisely when he will step down.
The only thing Ive committed to is getting through this (legislative) session, Lloyd said in responding to a new round of departure rumors, this time including talk that he was asked by Gov. Nikki Haleys staff to resign early.
I can say, unequivocally, she has never brought it up or communicated it directly or indirectly, Lloyd said.
Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey confirmed that the governors office has not asked Lloyd to step aside.
