The Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority is monitoring the radiation levels round the clock.
The aim is to look into whether the radiation leakage from Fukushima atomic energy plant in Japan has any effect on the environment. Monitoring is carried out from the premises of the Authority in Colombo and the Peradeniya University grounds. The Atomic Energy Authority has stated that so far there has not been an increase in the radiation levels. Meanwhile a window has been opened to check whether the people who arrive in the country from Japan have come in contact with radiation. The checks are being carried out free at No 60/460, on Baseline Road. More information can be obtained by contacting 0112 547 332.
