The Moon is positioned at the closest location to the earth after 18 years. Senior Lecturer of the Physics faculty of the Colombo University Dr. Chandana Jayaratne said that the Sri Lankans will have an opportunity to witness a bigger moon tonight.
It is after 1993 that the Moon has come closest to the earth. He said that such a situation occurs every 14 months and sometimes the Moon is placed further away from the earth. He said that the Moon was positioned at the furthest position on 6th March. He said that wind can increase high tides.
