The Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority is monitoring the radiation levels in the atmosphere around the island, round the clock.
The aim is to look into whether the radiation leakage from Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan has any effect on the environment. Monitoring is carried out from the premises of the Atomic Energy Authority in Colombo and the Peradeniya University grounds. The Atomic Energy Authority has stated that so far there has not been an increase in the radiation level in the atmosphere. Meanwhile a window has been opened at the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority on Baseline Road to check whether the people who arrive in the country from Japan have come in contact with radiation.
