Sri Lankans have been warned of an attempt to dupe web users by asking for money to assist people affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) said that it received a warning of the fake websites from the International CERT located in Hong Kong.
Information Security Engineer of SLCERT Sri Lanka, Rohana Palliyaguru said that some of these fake organisations collecting money on the web to help Japan are using names similar to leading humanitarian agencies.
Palliyaguru urged web users not to be misled by these fake websites and give assistance assuming it will reach people affected in Japan. He said the public should check the authenticity of these websites before making any payments online. (NewsNow.lk)
