Use of plastic weighing scales has been prohibited in shops and public outlets.
The Consumer Authority has decided to ban the use of plastic weighing scales in public places. It is due to the incorrect readings given by plastic weighing scales. Director of the Measurement Unit and Service Department K. Premasiri Kumara said that 1995 Act that confines plastic weighing scales for private use has to be enforced. He said if anyone violates the ban he will be liable for a fine of 2,500/- to 3,000 rupees.
