Operation against Libyan leader Gaddafi has begun

Mar 20, 2011 12:24:11 PM - itnnews.lk

A number countries in the west including the US have launched a massive attack on Libya with an eye on its oil resource.

Libyan leader Col. Gaddafi has said that arms depots will be opened for the people to defend their country.

International reports say that a series of missile attacks were directed towards the country. United Kingdom, Canada, France and many other countries have participated in the attack. Fighter jets and war ships have also been used. Reports say that more than 50 civilians including women and children have been killed due to the attacks. International reports quoting the Libyan state television said that the hospitals are filled with the injured. Venezuela has promptly condemned the attack. Five members of the Security Council refrained from voting at the vote held on taking military action against Libya and imposing a no fly zone. China and Russia are also amongst them. More than 110 missiles have so far hit the country. Addressing the nation on the state television and radio, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi stressed that all should take up arms against this terrorist attack. He emphasized that people should not leave the country and instead protect it. International analysts say that the damage caused to Libya could be similar to the damage caused to Iraq by the US and several Western countries.
