A Gaston man wanted on charges he kidnapped his estranged girlfriend at gunpoint surrendered to Lexington County authorities Sunday. Melvin Alphonso Burgess turned himself in to Lexington County authorities shortly before dawn Sunday, Sheriff James R. Metts said.
Burgess, 40, of Gaston, is accused of entering a home Friday on Mac Circle in Lexington where the girlfriend was with another man, Metts said.
He is accused of pointing a gun at the man, firing it at a glass bedroom door and pushing him through the shattered door, warrants said.
He then is accused of finding the woman hiding in a closed shower stall and forcing her at gunpoint to get into his car.
The woman turned up Saturday at a Montgomery, Ala., hospital, where she was being treated for injuries.
