The President will inaugurate the Norochchole power plant tomorrow adding a coal power plant to the existing number of power plants in the country.
The president will inaugurate the Lakvijaya Power Plant tomorrow. It is the first coal power plant to be constructed in the country. The power plant was constructed at the expenditure of 46.5 billion rupees. 5.3 billion rupees was invested locally. The main investor is the Peoples Republic of China. The construction work of the power plant is also handled by China. The capacity of the power plant is 300 megawatts. Minister Patalie Champika Ranawaka said that with the inauguration of the power plant a unit of electricity could be sold at the nominal price of 9.00 rupees. The furnace of the power plant was commissioned on the 17th of November. 80 families that lost their land due to the construction have been provided furnished houses with all facilities on an area of 20 perches each. They have also been provided a 2 a acre land for cultivation. The Lakvijaya power plant will provide a solution for the power crisis in the country.
