The Ports Authority has taken special measures due to concerns regarding radiation fallout.
The programme has been jointly launched by the Ports Authority, Customs Department and Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority. Containers and vehicles will be subjected to a special test to detect radiation fallout. The goods from Japan and the surrounding countries will be specially focused under this programme. The programme is being carried out under the instructions of Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeyguanwardena.
Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority said that it is monitoring the radiation levels in the atmosphere round the clock.
