Mar 22, 2011 4:15:58 AM - news.lk
Sri Lankan atomic energy authorities say that so far no radioactive materials have been found in the test carried out by them despite escalating fears of radiation in Japan.Atomic Energy authorities say that a thorough examination of rainwater samples collected from across the country is being done these days.

“There is no needs for unnecessary panic as the tests carried out so far for radiation have been proved negative” The Atomic authority announced.

As in other countries, Tests are being conducted to alleviate public concerns that radioactive materials released into the atmosphere from Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear power station may have been absorbed by rain.

Meanwhile health authorities also said that all food import to Sri Lanka were tested for radiation at the port of entry. Sri Lanka does not import food items from Japan but it does from Japan’s neighbouring countreis.
