The Sri Lankan Embassy in Libya has been temporarily closed. The Ministry of External Affairs announced that it has been closed from yesterday.
There is a threat to the lives of civilians in Libya with the United States and some European countries including France and Britain launching air attacks. The External Affairs Ministry said it was decided to close down the Embassy following the new developments in Libya. Action has been initiated to get down Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Libya Sudantha Ganegama Arachchi. During the internal clashes, the civilians of the Libyan capital Tripoli supported Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi. As such Tripoli has become the main target of the air attacks unleashed by the United States and European nations.
