Wine Walk, Lexington’s newest festival, wound up a winner, as Town Council settled on an allotment of nearly $55,000 in hotel bed tax revenue for local events.
The May gathering will receive $10,000 in aid, double what an advisory panel recommended, after council members revised the initial plan Monday.
Twelve events will get subsidies ranging from $1,000 each for a pair of tennis tournaments to $15,000 to the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce for promotion of area tourism.
Two events endorsed by the panel — $1,000 for an exhibit at the Columbia Museum of Art and nearly $1,500 for a bicycle race around Lake Murray — were eliminated.
The aid must go for events thought to bring visitors to the area.
