The apparel industry of Sri Lanka expects to achieve a growth rate of four percent this year keeping its growth momentum intact. The apparel industry recorded a growth rate of 3.7 percent in export income only from January to November last year.
Sri Lanka exported apparels worth 3.038 Billion US Dollars surpassing a revenue of 2.930 Billion US Dollars during the same period in 2009. A sum of 40 Million Rupees has been allocated from the Consolidated Fund per year to promote the local apparel industry. This fund has been diverted this year for an image building campaign of the industry.
The Joint Apparel Association Forum launched an image building campaign throughout the country last month to highlight the contribution of garment factory workers to the development of national economy.
