The International Committee of the Red Cross has closed its office in Vavuniya.
The Vavuniya Office has thus been closed following a request from the Sri Lankan Government to carry-out its operations from Colombo, as a result of the peaceful environment prevailing in the country. Vavuniya was the last ICRC office to be closed in the North. The Office in Jaffna was closed at the end of last month. Romain Cachemaille, the outgoing head of the Vavuniya office was quoted as saying that their Colombo Office will hereafter handle all welfare activities. He expressed satisfaction that the Sri Lanka Red Cross will continue to assist them in this work
