The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has said that safe houses and foster homes would be set up in the provinces to house abused children.
NCPA Chairperson Anoma Dissanayake has told the media that these safe houses and foster homes are aimed at ensuring the safety of abused children.
These safe houses are to be established in collaboration with the provincial probation offices.
The first such safe house is to be established in the North Central Province.
According to Dissanayake, the safe houses will be sued to provide security to abused children as well as child witnesses.
