The Maha Sangha of the Tri-Nikaya expressed their sympathy to the people of Japan who were hit by the Tsunami.
In a release the Maha Nayake Theras of the Tri Nikaya said that Japan has been a pioneer in carrying out welfare programmes for the benefit of the Sri Lankan people. It is a country that enjoyed friendly relations with Sri Lanka for a number of years. They emphasized that the only consolation for both countries is the teachings of the Buddha as both follow the path of Buddhism. The Japanese people are a courageous lot having ‘Uttana Sampada’ as described in Buddhism. The Maha Nayake Theras have expressed confidence that the Japanese government and the people will be able to normalize the situation soon through their past experiences. Signatories to the release are Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatta Chapter of the Siam Nikaya Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharkkhith Thera, Maha Nayaka of the Ramanna Nikaya most Ven. Wewaldeniye Medhalanka Thera and Maha Nayake of the Amarapura Nikaya Most Ven. Davuldena Gnanissara Thera. Meanwhile a special Bodhi Pooja programmes will be held at temples throughout the country including the Temple Trees at 6.00pm tomorrow to invoke blessings for the affected people.
