Reports of the Police Department say that recently held local government election has been associated with the least number of cases of poll related violence.
The incidents of election violence have decreased due to creating a background to hold a free and fair election. The Police Department said that this situation has been evident in the last 7 years. 2 thousand 422 incidents have been reported in the 2004 election while the number had dropped to one thousand 198 in the 2005 election. 1089 incidents of poll related violence were reported in the 2010 Presidential election have been reported. In the last general election 347 violent incidents were reported. During the past local government election this number has dropped to 221. The analysts attribute this situation to the establishment of democracy in a peaceful environment, preparation of the background for a peaceful poll and people having more confidence in the power of the ballot above violence.
