Minister T.B. Ekanayaka has said that a National Centre for Performing Arts will be provided for the artistes in the country to showcase their talents in the international arena.
The Minister said that dramas now reach the villages following the newly acquired freedom. He said that it indicates a great awakening. The Chinese government has granted 3080 million rupees to build the only Performing Arts Centre in Asia. He said that the centre will be inaugurated in May. The Minister stated this while addressing the commemoration function held today to mark World Drama Day. The Centre with all modern amenities is a valuable contribution for the Sri Lankan artistes. A large number of artistes participated in the function held at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre.
