Religious ceremonies to invoke blessings on Japanese people

Religious ceremonies were held in a number of temples in the country yesterday to invoke blessings on the Japanese people.

A bodhi pooja ceremony was held in the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara to invoke blessings on the Japanese people who were affected due to the Tsunami. The Government and private sector organizations in the area as well as local residents participated in the function.

A Bodhi Pooja and a peace procession organized by the District Secretariat of Kegalle, was held centering Sri Mahindodaya Pirivena. Members of the Maha Sangha, Ministers, Parliamentarians and the local residents participated in the function.

A series of Bodhi Pooja ceremonies was held at the Alu-Vihara Raja Maha Vihara in Matale. Maha Sangha led by Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Aluvihare Saranankara Thera, the District Secretariat and many other government sector organizations participated in the function.

The Batticaloa Police Headquarters organized a Bodhi Pooja ceremony at the Mangalarama Vihare in Batticaloa to invoke blessings on the Japanese people. The function was held under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the Vihare Ven. Ampitiye Sumanaratana Thera. A large number of people participated in the ceremony.

A Bodhi Pooja was held under the guidance of Ven. Omare Kassapa Thera near the Matara Bo tree. It was organized by the District Secretariat and the Matara Police.
