The Secretary General of World Tourism Organization has said that Sri Lanka is the emerging country in Asia.
Secretary General of the UN World Tourism Organization Dr. Taleb Rifai has said that the measures adopted in Sri Lanka have been lauded by the World Tourism Organization. Tourists are drawn towards the scenic beauty and as well as the historic value of the country. He said that when studying the present conditions it is clear that Sri Lanka is the emerging country in the tourism sector in Asia. Mr. Rifai said that maximum assistance will be extended by the World Tourism organization to bring more tourists from countries such as Brazil and Russia to Sri Lanka. He said that the Sri Lankan target of bringing 2.5 million tourists to the country by 2016 would be easily achieved. The Secretary General of UNWTO, who is in Sri Lanka to participate in the Asia Pacific Regional conference of the World Tourism Organization expressed these views at a special meeting held with Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat.
