The tenders of ten foreign companies which could not duly supply drugs have been invalidated.
The Health Minister has issued instructions to accept tenders from ten other companies. Drug shortages are caused by the failure of pharmaceutical companies to provide drugs on time or due to their poor quality. Minister Maithripala Sirisena has decided to suspend the tenders of such companies and instructed officials to accept tenders from other companies. The Government has allocated 15 billion rupees to purchase drugs during the year.
